When is the peak season for visitors to Dunedin?
Visitor numbers are at their peak in Dunedin from February to early April. October and November can also be busy periods. During the peak season you should always forward book accommodation throughout the South Island of New Zealand. The winter period from May to September is quiet, except for July and August in the ski resort areas of Queenstown, Wanaka and Mount Hutt.
How many nights should I spend in Dunedin
We recommend visitors stay ideally 3 nights and at a minimum of 2 nights to appreciate the visitor attractions in the city. We frequently receive comments from guest saying, we wished we had spent more time in Dunedin, as there is just so much to see and do.

Belmont House is situated close to the city centre and is a comfortable 10 minute walk from the Octagon. We are also near many great cafes, bars and restaurants, galleries and antique shops. Getting around town is easy either on foot or by car. If you're arriving by car, we have free (24 hours) parking just outside the house and it's generally very safe to park your car, although as in any city, don't leave your valuables inside, just in case! Here's a summary of how to find us - also check out the map for our location!
By Plane
The Dunedin International Airport has several daily connecting flights from the major New Zealand airports. There are also direct flights to and from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne (summer months only) in Australia.
From the airport you can either take one of the door to door shuttles to the city (cost is about NZ$15.00 – NZ$20.00) A taxi direct from the airport to our door will cost about NZ$80.00
By Car
Find the Octagon on the map. Head from the Octagon up Stuart Street for 3 blocks, past Moray Place and Smith Street and at the next intersection turn left into York Place. Head to the top of the block and we are on the right hand side.
